On March 18, the public got a sneak preview of the new mall that may be coming to Norwalk when its developers, General Growth Properties (GGP), released a full-scale three-dimensional model at Norwalk Town Hall.
The mall, which is currently in its final planning stages, is set to be called the Sono Collection. The proposal calls for the mall to be built along North Water Street, West Avenue and Interstate 95. The facility would encompass about 700,000 square feet and would feature about 80 to 100 retail stores (including Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s) as well as a 150 room hotel. What’s more, it would feature 3,000-space parking garage, and a rooftop terrace.

If all goes according to plan, construction will begin this summer and the mall will open for business in October, 2018.
This is an exciting proposal for the city, and one that has the potential to benefit the local community tremendously. The project would bring in business from all over the tri-state area, due in large part to its close proximity to New York City and its convenient positioning along Interstate 95.

With this in mind, it’s no wonder that the mall has widespread support. One such supporter is Norwalk Mayor Harry W. Rilling.

“It fits right into the area and it’s a moment we’ve been waiting for quite some time now,” Rilling explained to The Hour following the showing. “This is going to mean a tremendous boost to the Norwalk economy.”
Indeed, upon completion the mall will help cement Norwalk as a top business destination in Fairfield County.
